Course Description

 

This course is an introduction to the Modern Standard Arabic Language.

Students will learn the sounds and script of Arabic and its basic vocabulary and structure.

Students will gain elementary training in the four language skills:

  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Reading
  • Writing

Basic grammar is taught through reading, writing and speaking skills.

Students will learn about basic cultural traditions through the use of language.

Expected Student Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the student’s proficiency is expected to be at the novice-mid level and might approach the novice high level

 The student will be able to:

  • Use basic courtesy expressions and phrases within predictable areas of need.
  • Identify common items from immediate environment.
  • Comprehend simple statements and questions within predictable areas of need.
  • Recognize the Arabic letters in different positions as well as read phrases and expressions within immediate areas of need.
  • Copy familiar words and phrases as well as write some high frequency words from memory.
  • Develop awareness of some aspects of Arab life and culture which involve cultural patterns of everyday life.

This course is being designed as my Masters Project in Instructional Technology at California State University, San Bernardino. 

The purpose of the course is to apply instructional design theory and web design best practices to create an e-learning project that will help adult learners prepare to learn Turkish.

The course teaches the basics of Turkish vowel harmony.

Vowel Harmony is a fundamental feature of the Turkish language.

This course will provide you with background knowledge that will give you a head start for learning Turkish.
